“Humans are more important than hardware”  – SOF Truth  Dispatches from the Front 006: “Peloton is cutting jobs, closing stores and hiking prices” Remember two years ago when tech based at home fitness was the next wave? Apparently that wave has crashed as both Peloton and Soul Cycle are facing trouble.  I’m all for any platform that gets people moving – but NOTHING can ever replace the connections that are forged inside a CrossFit gym.  Time and time again we ask members what makes PSKC special and the consistent answer is “IT’S THE PEOPLE “. That relationship cannot be duplicated over a screen. As a matter of fact the hour at the gym might be one of the only hours when you’re not attached to your device. Seeing the trouble at home tech based fitness companies are facing reminded me of the 5 SOF (Special Operations Forces) Truths: Humans are...

“In CrossFit gyms we don’t face the gym – we face each other”  – Nicole Carroll  Dispatches from the Front 005: I spent the last week at the CrossFit Games working for HQ. I was working on behalf of the Affiliate organization, the department dedicated to the support and growth of CrossFit Affiliates. The Games are an incredible spectacle not only because of the amazing athletes – but more importantly the greater CrossFit community – the affiliates, the coaches, the members – the people who have connected because their lives have been amplified and energized through CrossFit.  It was a time to connect with other affiliate owners, discuss topics on panels, see old friends, drink some beer, and be around good people doing good things. A highlight was meeting in person all the international affiliate country managers. Their infectiousness and enthusiasm for CrossFit reminded me of myself back in 2007-2010...

“How you do one thing – is how you do everything”  Dispatches from the Front 004: If you can squat to full depth – do it.  If you can hit the wall ball target – do it. If you can fully lockout your elbows in the overhead position – do it.  Every – single – time.  If you miss a rep – don’t count it.  As a coach our job is to teach the movement, correct faults, and give you cue to improve your movement patterns. We will be relentless in helping you achieve mastery of the fundamentals. Why? Better movement = better quality of life.  Focus on the quality of “good” repetitions – not the quantity of questionable reps and you will advance much faster and feel much better. Live your dream, Dale What You Need to Know:  We would like to give a big shout out to all...

“Never outsource your self reliance”  Dispatches from the Front 003: I have a long tenure in bullshit developed by group think and big organizations.  Liberal Arts Degree by a private university. Served as an Intelligence Officer in the US Army deployed twice to Iraq. Worked as a government contractorWorked as a federal employee for the Department of EnergyWorking with people with substance use disorder In each of these experiences I trusted that someone “behind the green curtain” knew what they were doing. In each of these experiences in my life I was able to advance into higher levels and gain a sneak peek behind the green curtain and was disappointed to say the least by the decision makers.  In college I didn’t learn much other than the discipline required to complete assignments in order to graduate on time.  In the military I was sent to a war that was caused and promoted...
